When we first met this family, they shared their vision for a brighter, more open space that could evolve with their growing family — especially as new grandchildren started to gather in their home. The main floor felt dark and closed off, and while the kitchen had been recently renovated, they knew it needed a few thoughtful updates to truly tie the whole space together.
The Transformation
The biggest challenge (and most exciting opportunity) came with the wall that separated the kitchen from the rest of the living space. This wasn’t just any wall — it was structural, and carried a host of complex issues. Working closely with our structural engineer, we installed a 20-foot steel I-beam to completely remove the wall. The result? A seamless, open-concept flow filled with natural light — perfect for both quiet mornings and lively family gatherings.
Kitchen Refresh
Since the kitchen had already been updated not long ago, we focused on refining it with thoughtful details that made all the difference. A new countertop and backsplash brought in fresh energy, while subtle layers of texture and pattern added warmth and character.
From the elegant drapery to the modern light fixtures, every detail was considered. Even small updates, like new seating at the island, brought cohesion to the space. These little touches created a kitchen that feels polished, contemporary, and perfectly connected to the rest of the home.
Contemporary Touches
The fireplace was redesigned into a sleek, contemporary focal point, balancing warmth and style. The staircase also received a dramatic update: we removed the curve at the bottom and introduced new treads, spindles, and a handrail for a clean, contemporary aesthetic.
Finishing Details
Rather than replacing all the furniture, we reupholstered existing pieces — a sustainable choice that gave beloved items a fresh life. Layered in with new light fixtures, side tables, area rugs, and artwork, the space feels collected, refined, and truly personalized.
